FILO D'ACQUA, MAROGGIA / It was the extraordinary beauty of the surrounding nature that inspired the design of the project Filo d’Acqua in Maroggia.
Located on one of the most beautiful shores on lake Lugano, the design of Architect Davide Macullo acts as a link between the centre of the town and the stretch of water.
The new building completes the urban area having been built on one of the last building plots along the shore.
Through two buildings which connect the town to the lake, the residential complex represents a visual portal onto the water. The site has been organized giving priority to green spaces and it seems like a natural pathway leading seamlessly from the centre of town down to the lake shore.
The theme of space continuity is reinforced by the geometry of the buildings: the elliptical plan produces a dynamic and continuous perimeter.
The buildings appear as two organic boulders which are connected with each other and are integrated into the lake landscape. Nature, pathways, buildings and spaces open up without obstacles one inside the other, by virtue of the continuity of elliptical lines.
The large windows and perimeter balustrades – also in glass – reflect the colours of the surrounding countryside, making the buildings appear light and transparent: they seem to be floating on the lake water or they are absorbed by the rows of surrounding fir trees.
Drytech created the parking under the level of the lake, with an impermeable structure of 2,600 m².
The flexibility of the DRYset system for the construction joints was important to prepare the curved profile of the concrete bed-wall joint for waterproofing.
